A UK law firm has landed a globally recognised award for a published guide on sustainable investment.

Sacker & Partners’ ESG Trustee Guide picked up the gong at the 2019 Sustainable Investment Awards, for its ‘Putting the Law into Practice’ guide.

The guide, designed to help pension schemes implement ESG factors into their investment strategy, was praised as “practical thought leadership that could help to move the dial”.

The paper is the third in a series of guides aimed at pension fund trustees for defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) schemes of all sizes.

“We invest a great deal of time into breaking down the confusion that continues to surround ESG, continuously looking to enhance and update our guidance for trustees and schemes alike,” Stuart O’Brien, partner at Sackers, said.

“ESG has been continuously moving up trustees’ agendas and 2019 has seen many schemes preparing for the implementation of recent regulatory changes, such as the new investment regulations which come into effect from October.

O’Brien added that the most recent set of changes to statements of investment principles (SIPs) and investment disclosure, while introduced with an implementation deadline for October 2020, will mean trustees must re-evaluate their responsibilities once again.

“With this in mind, it is more important than ever that trustees are equipped with the right tools to help them navigate these complex regulations and challenges.

“Trustees need to be prepared to challenge their advisers, ensuring that they are meeting their legal duties and empowering them to make the right decisions for their schemes. Our guides are designed to do just that,” O’Brien added.
