Julius Baer appoints sustainability chief

It comes ahead of a restructure of the leadership team in January 2020

Julius Baer has appointed a new head of corporate sustainability and responsible investment from Credit Suisse.

Yvonne Suter started with the Swiss group on Monday (4 November) with responsibility for developing the organisation’s corporate sustainability strategy.

Suter had been at Credit Suisse since 2005, holding several leadership and management positions. Most recently, she was head of sustainable investment, a position she held for five years.

“I am delighted we have been able to appoint Yvonne Suter, a proven expert, as the new head of corporate sustainability and responsible investment,” said Philipp Rickenbacher, chief executive officer of Julius Baer in a media release.

“Thanks to her comprehensive knowledge and network, as well as her many years of experience, she has all the prerequisites for further developing Julius Baer in the areas of sustainability and responsible investment and expanding the Bank’s activities.

“This will further enable us to meet the ever-increasing demands in all aspects of sustainability: economic, social, as well as environmental.”

Suter has a strong educational background with a master’s degree in international affairs and governance from the University of St Gallen.

The news comes a month after Julius Baer outlined plans to streamline its executive leadership team.

From January 2020, the organisation will align the executive boards of Julius Baer Group and Bank Julius Baer & Co, with the same people serving on both boards. The company is to cut the executive leadership team from the current 15 members to just nine.
