ESG statement

Candriam

Responsible investing has been at the heart of Candriam’s business for over 20 years. Over this time we’ve built up one of the biggest dedicated SRI teams in Europe, enabling us to provide a broad range of SRI strategies covering geographic regions and asset classes, and that today accounts for nearly 30% of our company’s total assets under management.

We’ve been running responsible investment portfolios since 1996. The core of our conviction has always been that investment opportunities and risks can’t be fully evaluated using traditional financial measures alone: to ensure a complete view of each company’s long-term prospects, we also need to consider its ESG practices. For this reason, all of our asset managers consider ESG factors when they are making investment decisions on behalf of our clients.

To this end, our mainstream asset class experts have access to a centralised database that contains detailed ESG data on each company that we cover as well as a range of in-house RI research documents. What’s more, all of our analysts and portfolio managers are in regular contact with our SRI experts. This provides them with in-depth understanding of each company’s business model and the practices it follows.

We also provide our clients with access to the broadest range of RI strategies in continental Europe. It covers active equity, fixed income, money market and asset allocation solutions, passive equity and bond portfolios, impact investing strategies, and SRI portfolios and services tailored to their own beliefs and needs.

Our RI investment process involves constructing a universe of companies with best-in-class ESG practices, and from there investing in the firms with the best financial prospects. As well as helping us pinpoint the most attractive opportunities, this approach enables us to minimise financial and ESG risks. We adopt a unique approach to sustainability analysis that involves macro analysis of each company’s exposure to long-term sustainability trends and challenges, and micro analysis to assess a firm’s ability to incorporate stakeholder interests in its long-term strategy.

We’re also an engaged investor, voting in the best interests of our clients at company shareholder meetings and engaging in regular dialogue with the firms we invest in, particularly with respect to matters related to sustainable development.

Furthermore, at Candriam we believe strongly in educating people about the importance of responsible investment and the best way to approach it. That’s why we’ve set up the Candriam Academy – the world’s first free-to-access accredited training platform for sustainable and responsible investing. Designed primarily with the needs of financial intermediaries in mind but open to everyone and free of charge, the Candriam Academy aims to raise users’ awareness and knowledge about sustainable and responsible investing via an innovative online platform of inspiring interactive content.
