The discretionary management arm of Man Group – Man GLG – has made a new appointment to bolster its responsible investment talent pool.

Louis Rieu joins as a co-portfolio manager on the company’s Responsible Investment European Equity Strategy and will work in London alongside Mike Canfield, the lead portfolio manager.

Rieu was previously at Lofoten Asset Management, where he worked as an equity analyst. There, he researched European listed equities and helped with portfolio construction and risk management. He had previously worked at Man GLG back in 2013 as a research analyst within Mike Canfield’s team.

“ESG is at the heart of our investment process,” said Canfield in a statement. “Through the strategy, we seek to generate alpha by identifying companies that deliver strong financial performance as well as a real, sustainable and positive change in the world.”

Canfield said that Rieu’s experience would strengthen the company’s capabilities in responsible investment, adding that “he is a talented investment manager and I look forward to working with him on the RI European Equity strategy.”

Rieu’s undergraduate degree is in Biological Science and he also holds a master’s degree in Investment Management and is CFA qualified.

Man GLG’s Responsible Investment European Equity strategy incorporates ESG “themes” in an active, concentrated portfolio of high conviction European stocks that are leading the way with sustainable behaviours and policies.

The strategy was spun out of the company’s European Equity strategy. As a dedicated responsible investment strategy operating within the group’s responsible investment fund framework, Man GLG RI European Equity applies the firm’s requirements of enhanced ESG standards, including the RI Exclusion List, stewardship and 100% proxy voting, and enriched ESG reporting.
